Independent Verification & Validation

TMS has extensive experience in the delivery of Independent Verification and Validation, having delivered IV&V services for multiple public sector clients in the States of California and Hawaii.
INDEPENDENT VERIFICATION & VALIDATION

The primary goals and intents of IV&V services are to independently ensure that the project is:

  1. Building the product right (Verification)
  2. Building the right product (Validation)

Independence takes two mandatory forms:

  1. Technical independence requires the IV&V service provider to not be organizationally involved in the software development or implementation effort, or have participated in the projects initial planning and / or subsequent design.
  2. Managerial independence requires that the IV&V service provider effort is vested in an organization departmentally and hierarchically separate from the software development and program management organizations.

The primary standard governing the work of IV&V and serves as the foundation for the IVV Management Plan is IEEE Std 1012-2016, IEEE Standard for System, Software, and Hardware Verification and Validation. The 2016 version of IEEE 1012 has increased the emphasis on Integrity levels for determination of IV&V rigor from previous specification versions
